At the age of ten, Hans Limburg began to play the classical guitar. Through the compositions of Heitor Villa-Lobos, he got to know Brazilian music for the first time. He was strongly influenced by Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66, Baden Powell and João Gilberto. After many sessions in clubs in the 80s and 90s, he founded the band projects “Brasil Nativo”,“Via Brasil” and “Alegria”. Having moved to Berlin, he collaborated with a wide variety of musicians and made many radio, TV and CD recordings.

Important milestones in his musical career were courses with artists such as the “New York Voices”, Mili Bermejo, Judy Niemack, Nelson Faria and Célia Vaz.

In 1999, he released the CD “Generation99” with guitarist and composer Tobias Langguth on which one can hear their own songs, bossa standards, songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Roberto Menescal and beat bossa arrangements of international standards.

In 2001 Hans Limburg took part as a singer in the Brazilian Carnival project “Sapucaiu no Samba”, which was the winner of the “Karneval der Kulturen” in Berlin. The next year, his group “Planetão” won first prize in the “Forum brasiliansicher Künstler in Berlin” competition.

In 2003 he taught Brazilian music at the “Hanns Eisler” Music Academy in Berlin. In the same year, percussionist Volker Conrath's “Bloco Explosão” was the winner of the Carnival competition in Berlin, with Hans Limburg on voice and guitar. 
With “Trio Cupuaçu” he recorded the CD of the same name with Volker Conrath, percussion and Thomas Walter Maria, saxophone and flute. The repertoire consists mainly of tunes of their own, alongside Brazilian classics. 
“Planetão - live at quasimodo” is the name of the CD, that Hans Limburg recorded with the quintet “Planetão” in Berlin at the end of 2003, with Brazilian standards by Tom Jobim, Marcos Valle and others.

Tudo bem por aí? Tudo certinho?

In 2005, “Trio Cupuaçu” and the band “Bassanova” (with Carsten Schmelzer, bass; Felix Astor, drums and Valentin Gregor, violin, viola, voice) were prize winners at the “Latin Award Berlin”.
Since then, Hans Limburg has toured with the acoustic “TrioRio” (with Zito Ferreira, cajon and Carsten Schmelzer, acoustic bass), with jazz guitarist Roland Gebhardt, with “BassaNova” and as a soloist.
In 2008, Hans Limburg, voice and Tobias Langguth, guitar were price winners at the international competition “Voice & Guitar” in Völklingen/Saar. In the same year, Hans spend six months in Brazil and recorded the CD “From Brazil...With Love” in Stephan Hitzelberger’s “Estúdio ViaBrasil” near Recife, Pernambuco. The repertoire includes a variety of nice MPB-standards.
In 2010 Hans recorded with his “TrioRio” and guest soloist Vladimir Karparov the CD “Christmas Samba - Weihnachtslieder”: German and international christmas songs in a Brazilian style.
The new project “Duo Rio-Amazonas” with the oboist Nigel Shore presents the program “From Bach to Bossa” - inspired by the music of Heitor Villa-Lobos.
Regular concert activties  in Europe and Brazil with Nigel Shore, Zito Ferreira, Carsten Schmelzer, Michael Kersting, Volker Conrath, Thomas Walter Maria, Sérgio Brandão, Carlos Bala, Lúcio  VIeira, Célia Vaz, Paulinho Trompete, Jessé Sadoc and Jane Duboc, among others.
