Duo Rio-Amazonas

From Bach to Bossa
Nigel Shore (oboe) & Hans Limburg (guitar, voice)
Rio de Janeiro, the city of Bossa Nova, Rio Amazonas, the mightiest river in the world - two sources of inspiration for Brazilian music, linked by the life and travels of the composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. Born under the shadow of the Sugarloaf Mountain, Villa-Lobos assimilated the contrasting influences of Johann Sebastian Bach and the power of nature of the ancient Brazilian river in a unique way, to create an individual and unmistakeable musical style, best known in his popular „Bachianas Brasileiras".
In their programme “From Bach to Bossa", Duo Rio-Amazonas follows him on this musical journey and continues it up to the Bossa Nova of the 1960s, which became world-famous through the songs of Antonio Carlos Jobim.
